Presenting the Sixteenth Annual ARC World Industry Forum

Transforming Industry through New Processes and Technologies

February 6-9, 2012 - Orlando, Florida

Collaboration and Social Media Solutions

Social media is becoming pervasive throughout society, raising many questions for industry.  For example, is social media productive for business use and can manufacturers equate the time and resources spent on social media to measurable performance?  Is the information secure?  Should CEOs be tweeting about their business trips, products, or business strategies?  How credible is the information that your company obtains and disseminates via social media?  How can companies extract value from social media?

Many organizations today use social media for legitimate business purposes – but the benefits depend upon the application and the focus.  For years, communities of practices (COPs) have used internal proprietary blogs and restricted extranets to communicate and share information with employees and clients.  More recently, some companies and communities have started using external platforms to share information publicly.

Making Production Management Collaborative
Some refer to the functions directly above the process control system as "CPM" or production management, others refer to these functions as "MES", and some call it "Level 3".  Whatever you call this increasingly important area, there are many challenges that can be solved by leveraging these applications.

The focus of this session is to address some of the major issues of this multi-supplier, multi-department, and multi-discipline area. These applications can interact with each other while keeping humans informed.  Attendees will learn how end users have been successful in creating a collaborative environment that improves operational performance in real-time.

Industry Transformational Technologies Executive Panel Discussion
This executive panel discussion will focus on top transformational technologies including: Analytics, Cloud, Mobile, Social, and 3D Virtualization.  Join this session to learn how industry leaders are extending applications to mobile devices, using social media and leveraging real-time data, business intelligence, advanced analytics, decision making, and collaboration tools on smartphones and tablets to drive performance to the next level.
Mobility Solutions Session
The shift from desktop/Internet computing to mobile Internet computing will transform the way we work and conduct business.  Manufacturers will embrace radical new technologies and change business processes to take advantage of smart mobile devices and the Internet of Things.  Supervisors should be untethered from their desktop computer, and other workers can benefit from ready access to information in the palm of their hands.  In addition, the information they gather is needed by others, but often delayed, muddled, or lost prior to entry into the IT systems when they return to their desks.   With immediate access to information and the ability to provide updates while they are physically at the work, improvements in productivity, accuracy, and compliance occur.  Mobility allows them to stay connected, enter information as part of the normal work processes, and keep the business information current and synchronized.
High quality and timely data going into the systems leads to actionable information coming out.  In this session, each participant should find new approaches to improve their organization’s agility.  The session includes presentations and a panel discussion.

Social Technologies for Industry
Social Technologies are commonplace for Millennials, and are now beginning to impact industrial companies.  They promise to offer people and organizations many performance advantages such as faster response, ability to find experts and get information when it is needed, informed decision-making, collaborative problem solving, file and information sharing, and better team performance.  Join this session to learn more about the use of Social Technologies such as Unified Communication, Social Collaboration, Enterprise Social Platforms, ‘Social’ Things, Social Intelligence, and Social Media in manufacturing.
