Presenting the Sixteenth Annual ARC World Industry Forum

Transforming Industry through New Processes and Technologies

February 6-9, 2012 - Orlando, Florida

Latest Innovations in Virtual Production

Download brochureIn the global marketplace, alternative products, new features, or other options can quickly be introduced to compete with your products and services.  To be successful, manufacturers must enhance their ability to innovate and adapt their products and services to changing conditions.  Manufacturers can focus on products, production processes, business processes - or any combination of these.  Product innovation relies on designing new products and quickly moving them into full-scale production and out to the customer.  Manufacturing process innovation can increase profitability or create new business opportunities based on better serving the customer.  Business innovation can take many forms as the emerging needs of customers, suppliers, engineers, business managers, and partners are addressed.

Because of the dynamic nature of the market, it is important to be able to shrink the time needed to design and implement new manufacturing processes, and to ensure that products are produced in an effective, efficient, and quality manner.  This program focuses on how leading manufacturers are using collaborative design tools, digital manufacturing systems, and integrated production management systems, to speed new products to market.

Agenda

Agenda details for this program are shown below.  Times and sessions are subject to change.

Description
collapse Day : Day 1 PM ‎(1)
Virtual Production Workshop
Held by the Digital Manufacturing Virtual Information Integration (DMVII) Community, this workshop is a continuation of the workshop held at the 2011 Forum.  The format is open and all industries and interested parties are welcome to attend.  The DMVII Community and the core working group will continue the development of the Interoperable Common Component Catalog, which is an effort to define both an architecture and the various elements/components that make up a multi-disciplined engineering environment for modeling and simulating virtual production systems that can be used to validate and commission physical production systems.  This involves mechanical, electrical, and automation software design, and all the components that make up a typical production system.  This includes digital manufacturing design applications and virtual automation platforms and the providers that supply these applications.
collapse Day : Day 2 AM ‎(2)
Transforming Industry: Keynote Presentations

Andy Chatha of ARC will discuss the top industry transformational technologies and processes for 2012.

Dianne Chong of Boeing will present some of the new technologies & materials used in 787 Dreamliner and how this plane will enhance our flying experience in the coming years.

Ron Guido of Johnson & Johnson will discuss what companies need to do to improve their supply chain integrity.

Transforming Industry: Executive Panel Discussion
Dr. Leo Christodoulou will tell us some of the initiatives US Government has recently launched to help manufacturing companies improve energy efficiency throughout their supply chain.

After Leo's presentation, the Keynote Speakers will be joined by John Berra and Helmuth Ludwig for the panel discussion.  The main focus of this discussion will be to explore ideas how companies can transform their manufacturing operations through new innovative processes and technologies.

Innovations in Product, Process, and Production Design

Manufacturers today have access to solutions and tools that will enable new levels of collaborative innovation across their product development as well as their production processes.  Technology from PLM providers will offer users a range of solutions and technology available from PLM and digital manufacturing, simulation and virtual production, as well as access to communities of users that share common requirements for innovation in product and process design/build activities.  Users across multiple industries such as automotive, aerospace, machine tool OEMs, industrial equipment, and consumer packaged goods are using these technologies to design, produce, and validate their products and get them to market faster.  Join this session to learn more.

Plant Software in the Cloud - Fact vs. Myth
Are manufacturers ready for Plant Software in the cloud?  Conventional wisdom says no, but the evidence suggests otherwise.  Join this session to learn about cloud basics, what's already being done by manufacturers, and participate in a provocative panel discussion.  The cloud may happen sooner - and deeper in the plant - than you expect!

Aligning PackML Integration Strategies
This is an end user alignment meeting on best practices to implement PackML and Make2Pack.  P&G (hopefully others) will share project execution learnings on these Standards.  End user alignment is needed in several areas to avoid machine builder confusion and work around gaps in the current Standards.
collapse Day : Day 3 AM ‎(2)
Industry Transformational Technologies Executive Panel Discussion
This executive panel discussion will focus on top transformational technologies including: Analytics, Cloud, Mobile, Social, and 3D Virtualization.  Join this session to learn how industry leaders are extending applications to mobile devices, using social media and leveraging real-time data, business intelligence, advanced analytics, decision making, and collaboration tools on smartphones and tablets to drive performance to the next level.
Reduce Time-to-Profits through Simulation and Modeling
Virtual production simulation tools are providing manufacturers, machine OEMs, system integrators, and others to design and validate production systems, machines, and manufacturing equipment prior to installation and implementation.  This is enabling companies to accelerate the production system lifecycle, launch production of their products earlier, and gain critical market presence before their competition.  Join this session to see first-hand how companies are using virtual simulation to gain market advantage.
collapse Day : Day 3 PM ‎(2)
Energy Efficient and Sustainable Production Machines
Sustainability and energy policies in the manufacturing industries have placed considerable emphasis on reducing material consumption to produce product as well as looking at alternative manufacturing strategies.  Machinery builders are the final cog in the value chain that enables these initiatives and are the unrecognized heroes.  Designing machinery for eco-efficiency is not a trivial pursuit for machine builders, as it fundamentally requires analysis down to the individual actuator, optimization of the cycle times, and determining tradeoffs between electrical and pneumatic power.  Furthermore, the latest trend is to look at the long term ROI in machinery based on electrical power consumption.  This is driving manufacturers and machine builders to consider alternative technologies that were once considered cost prohibitive.  This session will feature speakers from leading machine builders and manufacturers that are deploying energy efficient strategies throughout their organizations.
Design and Development as a Service
Today manufacturing is a highly distributed activity, where companies not only rely on supply chain partners to deliver materials and components, but also rely on competent engineering service organizations to quickly and accurately design and develop products, subassemblies, embedded software or components that will seamlessly flow into production, assembly, and distribution.  Join this session to learn more about use cases, companies providing and using these services, and future trends.
collapse Day : Day 4 AM ‎(1)
OMAC Workshops:  Machine Tool; Packaging Machinery

OMAC machine tool and packaging work groups will be conducting parallel 1 1/2 hour workshops open to all suppliers, machine builders, and packagers interested in improving the performance or their machines and machine lines through the development, promotion, and deployment of industry best practices and standards.  Dave Odendahl of Boeing will lead the machine tool workshop.  Bryan Griffen of Nestle will lead the packaging machinery workshop. Hear from experts with real life experiences.
